Resorters’ Ward, Rebedew & Roll to sectional

Koll won, 9-3. – Submitted photo VALDERS – The Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah/Howards Grove Resorters’ Max Ward, Troy Rebedew and Jon Roll advanced to the Division 2 sectional wrestling meet at the regional here Saturday.

Ward, a junior, won the 138-pound title with a 9-2 decision over Valders’ Luke Oltmanns in the finals. Roll, a junior, earned the championship at 285 with a pin against Kelly Paulsen of St. Lawrence Seminary (Mount Calvary) in 1:25.

Rebedew, a junior, placed second at 160. He lost in the finals to PJ Ladd of Chilton/Hilbert by a pin in 3:00.

The top-two finishers at each weight class qualified for the sectional Saturday at Milwaukee Lutheran, starting at 10 a.m.

The Resorters, who had only seven competitors due to injuries, placed third in the six-team meet with 116 points. Valders earned first with 265½.

Elkhart’s other place-winners were Cody Nelson, third at 120; Taylor Cain, third, 126; Ben Meiselwitz, third, 145; and Finn Shields, fourth at 182. Cain lost a wrestle-back for second to Jax Pritchard of Chilton/Hilbert, 8-2.

“We scored well for only having seven. I am very proud of Ward, Roll and Rebedew for qualifying this year,” said Resorter head coach Larry Ward.

“All three of these guys have different goals that they are looking to reach yet this year. I am confident in them rising up to the opportunity they have earned to reach these goals.”
