Review to utilize state-of-the art printing technology

by Barry, Christie & Ian Johanson

After 54 years of our family’s efforts, and those who preceded us since the late 1800's, further expansion and upgrading of the printing part of our newspaper business at our beloved, downtown, center of the-county Plymouth site is no longer workable.

So, with a heavy heart, we have concluded that our press line is to be removed and sold along with all associated equipment.

This only affects the printing part of the business. There will be no change in our ownership, creation, control, downtown Plymouth location of our corporation, or any staffing related to news, sales, pre-press production and community service.

Fortunately, we have found a family-owned newspaper publishing and printing firm very like ourselves only much larger, Bliss Communications, Inc. in Janesville, Wisconsin, to print, insert, address and deliver our publications for us: The Review, The Review XTRA, The Sheboygan Falls News, The Beacon, and The Current.

Subscribers will continue to receive The Review twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Fridays instead of Tuesdays and Thursdays. The weekly Sheboygan Falls News will be delivered on Fridays instead of Wednesdays. The every-other-week Sheboygan Beacon will be delivered on Tuesdays. The free XTRA will continue to be delivered Tuesdays.

In-house printing and all inserting, addressing and delivery operations at 113- 115 E. Mill St. Plymouth will be ended. The last newspaper printed here will be The Sheboygan Falls News on Tuesday, Feb. 28. The last printing for others will be Wednesday, March 1, 2017. The first issue of The Review printed in Janesville will be the Friday, March 3, 2017 edition. All of our current deadlines will be the same as they are now.

We are also working with the owners of publications we print for others to ensure their operations make a smooth transition to this enhanced future for themselves as well.

Since the late 1800’s The Review has been a way for people to know, share, question and comment upon what’s happening near their homes in Sheboygan County.

That is because facts, opinions, advertising and images can best be gathered, printed and distributed by a local newspaper.

In more recent times our creation of The Sheboygan Falls News and the Sheboygan Beacon has focused these efforts even more closely for those cities.

Today, in an era of hyper-partisanship and unverifiable social media, it remains more necessary than ever for an independent local newspaper to carry on this community unifying tradition.

While we have adapted to and led ways to provide the “news” side, the physical hard mechanics and technology of the printing process has evolved so far that it has finally become necessary to partner with others for the actual printing.

The Bliss Communications family profoundly believes in local community journalism and has made a very substantial investment in state-of-the-art newspaper printing, inserting, addressing and delivery technology.

By sharing in these advances we can produce larger sections with more vibrant color for photographs and advertising, as well as focus our full and unique attention on publishing the local news and advertising which most matters in Sheboygan County.

This as an exciting opportunity to bring the full possibilities of today’s printing world to nearly every household and business in Sheboygan County while we continue to carry out our “Neighborly News since 1895” commitment.
