Fat Tuesday

To The Editor:

There is always a lot of negative news to read in any paper, so it gives me a lot of pleasure to send a great thank you to the people of Sheboygan County and the surrounding areas for their wonderful support of Post #387 of The American Legion and Auxiliary Kupfahl-Meyer- Scheib in giving us success. The Annual Fat Tuesday Dinner was held at Laack’s Hall in Johnsonville. Funds raised will be used to support Veterans Programs in the local area and state. Locally we support Veterans Court, run entirely by volunteers (Judicial) and veteran mentors. Camo Quilt is for service members being deployed and those living in nursing homes. For homeless female veterans and their children there is a shelter (The Boudicca House) a transitional living facility in Milwaukee. The new Fisher House, where veterans or family members can stay rather than a hotel, for a number of days for outpatient treatment rather than them traveling 50 miles or more each day. Veterans are remembered in VA Hospitals and VA Homes on all Holidays not just Christmas.

We offer scholarships (Need a Lift) placed in area High Schools. Badger Girls and Boys State are also supported in the High Schools. There are many more veterans programs we take part in that I could include here, the list would be long. But this is a Thank you letter.

I would like to thank the Fiends of the Legion an Auxiliary that took time to help with setting up, serving coffee, milk and helping those that could use a little help. And of course the members themselves that worked and gathered donations for the raffles.

A good number of businesses in the area supported us with gift baskets, gift cards and certificates and other items for our silent auction and raffles. They play a big part in making a fund raiser a success. So we hope you support them in return. I hope I don’t miss anyone. Green Bay Packers, The Milwaukee Brewers, Bummy’s Haus Howards Grove, Log Cabin Inn in Howards Grove, Wagon Wheel Howards Grove, Parker John’s Kiel, Millers Glenn Howards Grove, Subway Howards Grove, Bill’s Piggly Wiggly Howards Grove, Luigi’s Pizza Belgium, Lee beverages and of course the great meal served by Laack’s.

In closing may I remind you to thank a Veteran for their service for if it was not for them we would not be able to gather when and wherever we please. Many have given much for the freedoms we enjoy with family and friends and many gave all.

Margaret Yonke

Unit #387 VA&R Chairman
