DOT schedules 2017 road construction projects

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) northeast region is providing a tentative listing of construction projects scheduled in the region for calendar year 2017. The list includes all state projects on interstates, the United States highway system, and the Wisconsin state highway system.

All schedules are subject to change. Updates for active construction project, traffic impacts and project progress will be available on the Northeast Region weekly construction advisory, distributed every Friday, tentatively set to begin in early March. Deck sealing will take place in Sheboygan County throughout the summer. Sealing of bridge decks on various state highways will be performed in various locations, with shoulder and lane closures. There will be night work in some locations.

In Sheboygan County, there will be several projects.

Interstate 43 will be resurfaced from the Sheboygan/ Manitowoc County line to State 42/I-43 interchange in Sheboygan. The anticipated start for the 6.9-mile project is in June and completion is expected in November. The project consists of concrete base patching of I-43 mainline, milling 2-inches of asphalt pavement and placing 4-inches of new asphalt pavement, culvert replacement, signing, and pavement marking. There will be nightly, single lane closures of northbound and southbound I-43 during concrete patching and paving operations. There will be no detour.

State 42 (Calumet Drive) in the city of Sheboygan will be reconstructed from Main Avenue to 26th Street. The 0.433- mile project is expected to run from May to October. This project is an urban reconstruction of WIS 42, including pavement removal, excavation, breaker run, base aggregate, concrete pavement, traffic signals, street lighting, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, concrete curb/gutter/ ramps, concrete sidewalk, pedestrian rail, pavement marking, and signing. State 42 and North Avenue will remain open to a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction at all times. Various turning movements will be prohibited at the State 42 and North Avenue intersection at times during construction. There will be no detour.

Pavement will be repaired on State 42 from I-43 in Sheboygan to Mueller Road in Howards Grove. This 25 working day contract will take place between the months of April and October 2017. The 0.851- mile project consists of pavement removal, concrete pavement replacement/repair, traffic signals and street lighting at 40th Street/County J intersection, sidewalk repair, concrete curb/gutter/ramp repair, storm sewer, pavement marking, and signing. State 42 will remain open to traffic during pavement repair, but may be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction during construction. There will be a brief closure for traffic signal arm installations. There will be no detour.

State 144 from State 28 in Silver Creek to State 57 in Random Lake will be reconditioned. The 6.85 mile project will run from May to September. Work will consist of milling and resurfacing 6.85 miles of WIS 144 and widening the travel lanes by two feet, widening shoulders, replacing curb and gutter, replacing storm sewer in Silver Creek, replacing culverts, updating existing beam guard, flattening side slopes, and upgrading a number of intersections. Traffic on State 144 will be detoured for the duration of the project with one lane remaining open for local and emergency vehicle access only. Local access to the project will be allowed at various side streets. The detour will be north along State 28, east on County A and south on State 57.

Pavement will be improved on State 32 from State 42 in Howards Grove to the State 32/57 junction in Millhome. The 7.27 mile project will take place this summer. The work includes resurfacing the roadway with new asphalt, centerline rumble strips, shoulder gravel, pavement marking, and curb repairs in the town of Ada. State 32 will remain open to traffic with flagging operations controlling traffic in the work zone. Access will be maintained to local businesses, residents and side road, cross traffic throughout the project. There will be no detour.
