UW-Fondy gallery hosts ‘Pervasive Plastic’ exhibit

The community is invited to an artist reception for two campus exhibits featuring the work of Mel Kolstad, 4:30-6 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 24, in the Visual Arts Gallery, at the University of Wisconsin- Fond du Lac, 400 University Dr., Fond du Lac.

Light refreshments will be available during the reception. A brief artist talk by Kolstad is set for 5 p.m.

On view in the Oberreich Gallery located in the University Center Commons: “Pervasive Plastic.” This is an installation of mandalas created using nothing but plastic bags, an iron, hot glue and machine stitching.

On view in the Visual Arts Gallery located in the Art Building, Room A-125: “The Collograph in Miniature.” This is an exhibit consisting of 48 tiny, 2 in. by 2 in. collographs, with plates created using recycled materials.

Kolstad is an artist and an instructor working throughout the state of Wisconsin. She has been an active member in the Wisconsin art scene since 2007, and has exhibited around the country and abroad since 2009. She is also the curator of the Langdon Divers Gallery, located inside the Fond du Lac Public Library. Kolsted enjoys working in mixed media, as there are so many wonderful techniques to be explored.

The two exhibits can be viewed March 13 through April 28. UW-Fond du lac gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
