Maywood Flapjack Day Sunday

Maywood hosts its 31st Annual Flapjack Day Sunday, March 19. A fun family event, Flapjack Day provides education about Wisconsin’s maple sugaring history.

An all-you-care-to-eat pancake breakfast will be served from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Breakfast tickets are $5 in advance and $6 at the door and include pancakes and a beverage. Children 4 and under eat free. Sausage will be available for purchase ala carte. Advance tickets may be purchased at Maywood’s Ecology Center Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 1 to 4 p.m.

A variety of free activities will be available 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to see sap collection, visit the steam-filled sugar shack, and take a guided tour of the maple forest. Camp Y-Koda will host Lumberjack Games that allow visitors to experience lumberjack activities. Participants will be able to try their hand at the frying pan toss, attempt to light a match with an ax, and use a cross-cut saw.

Nature crafts will be offered inside the Ecology Center. The Meuer Farm will be onsite selling foods created with maple syrup and other local natural foods.

Proceeds from this year’s event will support Maywood’s pond revitalization project. Restoration of the two spring-fed ponds will provide healthy aquatic ecosystems for fish, turtles, frogs, water birds, and many other aquatic species. The ponds are also an important piece of Maywood’s education programs and are enjoyed by visitors of all ages.
