Resorters earn fifth in D-2 state tourney

WAUWATOSA – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah coed team placed fifth in the Division 2 boys tournament at the Wisconsin High School Bowling Club State Championships, held March 3-5 at AMF Bowlero Lanes.

The Resorters advanced to the finals after finishing fourth in the qualifying round with a team score of 2,788 for 15 games, led by a high game of 257. The top-five teams in the qualifying competition moved on to the finals which were the stepladder format.

Fourth-seeded Elkhart faced fifth-seeded Amherst in match 1 of the finals. Amherst defeated the Resorters, 432-379, in a two-game series which eliminated EL-G. Amherst bowled games of 233 and 199 while EL-G scored 204 and 175.

Amherst advanced to match 2 where it lost to third-seeded Ashwaubenon, 395-384. Second seeded Monroe won the state title with a 386-382 win over No. 1-seeded Peshtigo in match 4 which was the finals. Monroe advanced to the title match with a 419-374 victory over Ashwaubenon in match 3 (semifinals).

The Elkhart team included Claire Feldmann, Dakota Schmidt, Anthony Klahn, Lauren Schmitt, Holly Zorn, Paige Weber, Sonia Schubert and coaches Dan Schmitt and Cody Schmitt.

Plymouth competed in the Division 2 boys team tourney and finished 18th in the qualifying with a total of 2,520, including a high game of 219. The team included Cole Held, Jared Beck, Ty Brink, Mi- chael Schoerner, Trevor Horneck, Dylonn Fox and coach Tony Barber.

Zorn and Schmitt competed in the girls singles competition (Divisions 1 and 2 combined). Zorn bowled a three-game series of 482 with a high game of 179 and Schmitt rolled a 465 with a high game of 170 in the qualifying round. Both Resorters didn’t advance to the second round. The top- 16 bowlers advanced to the second round and the top five from the second round moved on to the finals.

Schoerner bowled in the boys singles tourney (both divisions) and scored a 481 series with a high game of 169 in the qualifying round. He didn’t advance to the second round. The top-25 bowlers advanced to the second round and the first five qualified for the finals.
