Leona Gilboy, age 97, of Plymouth, passed away early Sunday afternoon (March 26, 2017) at the Atrium in Plymouth where she had been a resident for the past 8 years.

Leona was born in the Town of Wilson, WI, on May 21, 1919, a daughter of the late Martin and Katherine Schmitt Block.

On May 22, 1937, she married Norbert Gilboy in Plymouth. The couple has resided in Plymouth since their marriage. Norbert preceded her in death on February 3, 1992.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and belonged to the Christian Women’s Society in the church.

Leona was also a member of the Plymouth Golden Agers and worked at the First Ward Election Board in Plymouth for many years.

Survivors include: One daughter: Carleen (Neil) Morgan of Plymouth; One son: Robert (Betty) Gilboy of Arizona; Seven grandchildren: Sharon (Brad) Voskuil of Sheboygan Falls, Sue (John) Eadelis of Plymouth, Barb (Joe) Berenz of St. Cloud, Diane (Paul) Schwaller of Elkhart Lake, Mike (Carri Jo) Morgan of Wheeler, WI, Laura Gilboy of Arizona, and Rachel Gilboy of Arizona; Twelve great grandchildren: Ashley Voskuil, Jenna (Fiance: Zach Jennings) Voskuil, Nicole (Marc) Shuman, Angela (Brian) Goelzer, Tyler (Fiancee: Maria Brenner) Berenz, Jared Berenz, Gwen (Shane) Adams, Clara (Adam) Cohen, Alex (Fiancee: Katy Lamer) Schwaller, Morgan Schwaller, Christopher Morgan, Elizabeth Morgan; Six great-great grandchildren with one on the way in June; One sister: Mary Ann Verhage of Sheboygan; and One sister-in-law: Helen Gilboy of Algoma.

She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Leona was preceded in death by: an infant daughter, five brothers: Leonard, Robert, Herbert, Jerome, and Raymond; one sister: Helen Brendel; an infant sister; three brothers-in-law: Willard Brendel, Lawrence Verhage, and Francis Gilboy and four sisters-in-law: Marilyn, Mary, Lorraine, and Pat Block.

Prayer services will be held on Saturday (April 1. 2017) at 1:00 P.M. at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Father Dennis Van Beek will officiate.

Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Plymouth.

Visitation will take place at the Suchon Funeral Home on Saturday (April 1) from 11:30 A.M. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Leona’s name.
