Fast start fuels Resorters’ debut win

Hanna Jens (left) of NH and Elkhart’s Kianna Bahr look on. – Photo by Mike McGill ELKHART LAKE – The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then held off a New Holstein rally to win, 3-2, in girls soccer play here Tuesday afternoon.

The nonconference match was the season opener for both teams.

Elkhart scored three goals in the first 12 minutes. Camrie Schmitz kicked the first and third goals, and Holly Francis tallied the second one. Contributing one assist each were Paige Nelson, Schmitz and Kianna Bahr.

The Resorters led 3-1 at halftime. Olivia Ondrejka scored the Huskies’ goals at the 14:35 and 49:56 marks. Julia Danes made one assist.

New Holstein led 8-7 in shots on goal. Resorter goalie Taylor Porter made six saves.

We had good midfield play starting the game – working the ball outside and back to the center,” said Resorter head coach Kevin Ruh.

“Paige Nelson and Kianna Bahr played very well in the midfield and made great passes. Camrie made great runs and took some great shots.

“Overall, a good first game. We made enough good plays to overcome a few bad decisions which you expect to see in your first game of the season,” said Ruh.
