Why offset fold

Dear Tom,

Others have also expressed concern that our printing upgrade results in an offset fold. It is not a mistake, however.

High-speed machinery requires a “lip” to open the newspaper so multiple combinations of inserts guided by complex spreadsheets can be automatically placed inside.

The primary concern, of course, is that the tolerance for type in an adjacent column may get too tight and potentially make reading more difficult.

We are also watching this closely and insisting that readability never be sacrificed due to pressroom inattention to such a crucial detail.

Efficiency should never be more important than quality and reader satisfaction.

We are extremely pleased with the overall print quality and expanded availability of full color.

Plus, being relieved of the demands of managing all the details of printing, we can focus our full efforts on the intensely local news content which is most important.

Sincerely,

Barry, Christie
