Shutter PHS basketball MVP

PLYMOUTH – Alex Shutter, a senior guard, was named the Plymouth boys basketball team’s Most Valuable Player for the 2016- 17 season.

Shutter, an All-East Central Conference second-team pick, led the Panthers in scoring with an 11.4 points-per-game average, steals at 1.6 per contest and three-point goals with 36.

Brandon Keller, a junior forward, was selected Most Improved. The other award-winners are Matt Richards, a senior guard, with the Hustle Award and the Panther Pride Award, and Cody Kuhn as the Best Defender. Kuhn, a senior guard, earned All-ECC honorable mention.

Senior forward Derek Schweiger, paced PHS in rebounding with a 6.0 average and three-point shooting with 41.7 percent (15 of 36). Keller hit a team-best 54.5 percent from the field overall. Freshman guard Cole Booth led in free-throw accuracy with 76.1 percent (35 of 46).

The Panthers’ letter winners include: seniors Shutter, Schweiger, Kuhn, Richards and Jake Steinhardt; juniors Luke Schneider (manager), Keller, Cade Knaus, Adam Smith, Mason Guell, Holden Reilly, Mack Mella, Alex Kelly and Gabe Olsen; and freshman Booth.
