Shields paces EL-G boys in BEC meet

RANDOM LAKE – Freshman Finn Shields won the discus to lead the Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah Resorters in a Big East Conference boys track meet here April 11.

Shields earned his first-place finish with a throw of 112-10¾. He also took second in the shot put with 35-1.

Reedsville won the five-team meet with 70 points Random Lake was second with 47. Cedar Grove-Belgium was third at 42, followed by Ozaukee with 37 and Elkhart, 14.

Also competing for the Resorters was Hunter Radloff who placed second in the 200-meter dash in 25.5 seconds and was fifth in the 1,600 run in 5:00.8.

Elkhart placed fifth in the girls meet with 10 points. The Resorters weren’t at full strength because some of the athletes on their team were competing in other sports on the same day as the track meet.

Mia Rentmeester was the Resorters’ top place-winner with a second in the 100 in 14.8. Elkhart’s next-highest finishers were Summer Henschel, fourth in the 100 high hurdles in 21.5 and Bella Cain, fourth in the long jump at 13-½.

Reedsville won the girls competition with 83 points. Random Lake and Cedar Grove tied for second with 56 each, followed by Ozaukee at 40.

“Everyone improved their times and distances, and I was pleased with our efforts and results,” said Resorter head coach Joe Greuel about both teams.
