Zephyrs roll past Elkhart in BEC match

NEENAH – Sophomore Sydney Anderson’s four goals sparked host St. Mary Catholic to an 8-2 rout over the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters in a Big East Conference girls soccer match Thursday evening.

The Zephyrs hiked their BEC record to 4-0 (4-0 overall) while the Resorters dropped to 1-3 (2-3 overall).

“We started each half and ended each half with a little letdown – allowing all the goals tonight within the first seven minutes of each half and the last six minutes of each half. We need to prepare the girls better for starting the game and being ready to play and finish strong,” said Resorter head coach Kevin Ruh.

Abby Wisneski tallied three goals and Brianna Stilp had one for the Zephyrs.

Scoring one goal each for Elkhart were Sofie Sutcliffe and Camrie Schmitz. It was the first goal of the season for Sutcliffe, a freshman midfielder.

The Zephyrs led 14-13 in shots on goal. Resorter goalie Taylor Porter made six saves. Zephyr goalkeeper Raven Ferry LeClair had 11 saves.

“We played the night with one sub and all the girls worked hard to keep us in the game,” said Ruh.

“Our girls were tired. They left it on the field tonight. They came off knowing we can play better and knowing we have to work harder in practice if we want to go from playing well to winning.”
