Panthers second in County Invitational

HAVEN – The Plymouth Panthers finished a very strong second place in Saturday’s Sheboygan County Boys Golf Invitational at Whistling Straits.

PHS shot an 18-hole score of 331 on the very challenging Irish Course. This was the first year the tournament was held at this course. Previously, the invitational was at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls.

The Panthers were led by senior Jake Willeford who tied for third with Sheboygan North’s Andrew Gallimore at 81 each.

North fired an impressive team score of 317. The Golden Raiders were paced by medalist Max Schmidtke, who carded a 4-overpar 76, and runner-up medalist Austin Thyes with a 78.

The Howards Grove Tigers earned third with 356 and were led by sophomore Jack Baldwin who was in a four-way tie for fifth with an 82.

The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters earned fifth with a 363 total. EL-G’s top finisher was junior Dante Miller who tied for fifth with an 82.

The Panthers’ other-low players were Cole Bogenschuetz, tied for fifth with 82; and Johno Aschenbach and Cade Knaus who were in a three-way tie for ninth with 84s.

“We played very well. We had solid scoring from our four [low] players who all finished in the top 10 individually,” said Panther head coach Dan Knaus.

“I like the way we have played on some difficult golf courses this past week which will help us in the long run. Jake and Cole both played very well. I was pleased with how we played as a team.”

Also scoring for the Tigers were Matthew Bagnall with an 86, Jake Fritz, 90 and Ryan Splittgerber, 98.

“The Irish Course at Whistling Straits is a course that we felt very comfortable with and we had high hopes to finish well in this tournament. Jack played another fantastic round and it is good to see that his season has gotten off to a fast start,” said Tiger head coach Joe Hansen.
