Resorters bounce back strong to earn split

ELKHART LAKE – After a disappointing loss in the opener, the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters bounced back with a 12-2 rout in game two of Tuesday’s softball doubleheader against visiting Oostburg.

The split in the Big East Conference twinbill gives the Resorters a 5-2 BEC record (6-2 overall). The Lady Dutch, who won the opener, 7-6, are 1-6 in the league (1-7 overall).

In the nightcap, the Resorters pounded out 10 hits and got a strong pitching performance from senior Holly Zorn who twirled a five-hitter for the win. Zorn allowed one earned run and only two walks while striking out a pair.

Sonia Schubert slugged a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to spark the Re- sorters’ attack. Schubert, Raechel Grunewald and Kaylin Kalbacken led EL-G in hits with two each.

Schubert had a team-high two RBIs and led in runs and steals with three each. Elkhart drew eight walks.

“We had a solid bounce-back [from game one],” said Resorter

_ head coach Brian Feldmann.

“We were much sharper. We hit well. Holly was solid and the defense worked well behind her. She had everything [fastball and change-up] working well.”

Marissa TenHaken paced Oostburg in hits with two.


In the nightcap, the Lady Dutch took advantage of physical and mental errors by Elkhart to eke out the win. Resorter miscues led to four unearned runs by Oostburg.

The Lady Dutch seized a 7-6 lead in the top of the fifth inning on Emily Wensink’s two-run double.

TenHaken and Abbie Huibregtse led Oostburg in hits with two each. Taylor Miller and Wensink had a team-high two RBIs apiece.

Grunewald paced EL-G in RBIs with two. The Resorters had no batters with multiple hits.

The winning pitcher was Huibregtse. She gave up three earned runs on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts in going the distance.

Zorn was the losing hurler in relief of starter Megan Waage. Zorn went four innings and allowed two runs (both unearned) on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
