Tigers third at New Holstein Invite

HG finished 1-1 in the fourteam, round-robin tournament. Kewaunee finished first with a 2-0 record and NH was second at 2-1. Kiel was fourth with an 0-3 mark. Kewaunee didn’t play the Tigers due its school prom that evening.

The Tigers (3-5) seized a 10- 2 lead versus Kiel with a fiverun surge in the bottom of the fourth inning. The big hits were a two-run single by Sarah Gardner and a two-run triple by Paige Splittgerber.

HG banged out 12 hits, led by Gardner, Evelynn Spaeth and Zayla Mueller with three each. Taylor Bubolz added two. Gardner had a team-high four RBIs.

Splittgerber notched the win with a complete game. She allowed two earned runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

“We really looked good hitting the ball. We are a much better team hitting against faster pitchers. Mueller and Spaeth [both freshmen] continue to impress as the season continues,” said Tiger head coach Tom Heier.

Caitlin Meyer keyed the Raiders’ offense with two hits, including a double.

Melissa Sixel was the losing pitcher.

NEW HOLSTEIN GAME

The Huskies exploded for seven runs in the top of the fifth to erase an 8-5 deficit. NH outhit the Tigers 11-9, led by Mackenzie Doherty who had three.

Spaeth had a team-high three hits for HG, including a double. Mueller contributed two hits. Spaeth and Mueller led in RBIs with two apiece.

The winning pitcher was Doherty who walked five and fanned one in going the route.

Splittgerber was the losing hurler in relief of Courtney Binversie.
