The loss dropped the Panthers’ EWC dual record to 1-2.

“In what turned out to be the deciding match of the meet, Cedric Schamberger [PHS senior] played an incredible marathon match at No. 2 singles,” said Panther head coach Scott Milslagle.

Schamberger lost to Aaron Mullikin, 7-6, 4-6, 5-7.

“Cedric played his heart out and I think eventually just ran out of steam as he fought so hard to get back into the final two sets,” said Milslagle.

“He trailed in both the second and third sets 1-4 and rallied to tie or take the lead in both sets. He really adjusted his game to get back into the match and it worked perfectly but in the end I feel he just spent too much energy working his way back into the match to finish things off.”

The only Panther to win in singles was Gavin Binversie with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 1.

PHS won two of the three doubles matches – Ben Lenz and Colin Roth at No. 2, and Mason Dale and Taylor Hau at No. 3.

“All three doubles matches were close and well-played. At the beginning of the season I was concerned with the doubles side of our varsity because we had zero returning varsity players playing doubles and they were all new to varsity as well to each other. In only our third conference meet I feel they have really began to come together as teams and the communication among the teams is getting better and better,” said Milslagle.
