Panthers cruise to ECC triangular wins

PLYMOUTH – The Plymouth Panthers’ boys and girls teams dominated the East Central Conference triangular track meets at home April 25.

PHS racked up 98.5 points in the girls meet, followed by Ripon with 48.5 and Campbellsport, 21. In the boys competition, the Panthers amassed 109.5 points, followed by Ripon with 59.5 and Campbellsport,

“This was a good night for our teams. Unfortunately both opposing teams were light on numbers, so we had some events with few participants,” said Panther head coach Jay Grosshuesch.

“We had a nice night weather wise and our field event kids in particular took advantage of the nice weather. We had great jumps from our pole vaulters and high jumpers and some nice throws from the weight events.

“In the running events we were solid all the way around, with some great individual and relay races,” said Grosshuesch.

Gabi Mella was a triple-winner in leading the PHS girls. Mella took first in the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 13.67 and 27.14 seconds, respectively, and the long jump with 14-4ΒΌ.

The PHS boys were led by Jack Benedict and Max Hassel who were double-winners. Benedict won the 100 in 12.01 and the 200 in 23.27. Hassel captured the 1,600 with a 4:48.67 clocking and the 800 in 2:13.79.
