Waage fans 12 in Resorters’ win

BELGIUM – Junior Megan Waage struck out a career-high 12 batters in pitching the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters to a 6-2 win over Cedar Grove-Belgium in Big East Conference softball play here Tuesday afternoon.

Waage allowed one earned run on just five hits and walked only one.

“Megan pitched a gem. She had all three of her pitches working well – the fastball, changeup and riser. Her change-up was spot-on,” said Resorter head coach Brian Feldmann.

The Resorters hiked their BEC record to 9-2 (10-2 overall). Ekhart is in third place in the league. Mishicot and Random Lake were tied for first at 11-0 through Tuesday. Cedar Grove dropped to 3-5 in the BEC (3-6 overall).

“We hit the ball solid all night. Our defense was good. It was a good, overall team effort,” said coach Feldmann.

The Resorters banged out 11 hits, led by Sonia Schubert, Claire Feldmann and Raechel Grunewald with two each. Schubert and Maddie Schneider had a team-high two RBIs each.

Anna Thiel and Morgan Green led the Rockets at the plate with two hits each. Thiel belted a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning which gave her team a 1-0 lead.

Thiel was the losing pitcher and went the distance. She allowed six earned runs and seven walks to go with two strikeouts.
