Sutcliffe’s two goals spark Resorters to win

ELKHART LAKE – Freshman midfielder Sofie Sutcliffe scored two goals to propel the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters past Sturgeon Bay, 3-1, in a nonconference girls soccer match here Monday afternoon.

The Resorters evened their record at 5-5.

Sutcliffe and Camrie Schmitz scored a goal each to give the Resorters a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Clippers cut Elkhart’s lead to 2-1 on a penalty kick by Charlie Pollock with 16:56 left.

Sutcliffe’s second goal, on a cross by Paige Nelson, put the Resorters up 3-1.

“We played a very well-controlled game tonight. We marked better on the opposing player, not allowing any through balls,” said Resorter head coach Kevin Ruh.

“Shynaia Higgins did a great job tonight in the sweeper position – running down long balls and clearing them out allowing our defense to get set back up. Lauren Boos marked up and took away the outside runs and quickly turned the field for us.

Sofie Sutcliffe has taken her opportunities and stepped up with two goals tonight and continues to be that second scoring option – keeping pressure on the opposite side of the field,” said Ruh.

Elkhart led 12-7 in shots on goal. Resorter goalkeeper Taylor Porter made six saves. Clipper goalie Mckenna Gibson was credited with nine saves.
