Resorters fall to Rockets in BEC match

ELKHART LAKE – Cedar Grove-Belgium outscored the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters 4-1 in the second half to key a 7-3 girls soccer win here April 27.

The loss dropped the Resorters’ Big East Conference record to 3-5 (4-5 overall).

The Rockets scored two goals in the final four minutes of the first half to take a 3-2 halftime lead.

Camrie Schmitz led Elkhart in goals with two and Meredith Boos had one. Schmitz had one assist.

The Rockets’ offense was fueled by Autumn Beutel, Jessica Rose and Brittany Teunissen with two goals each. Haven Lanser tallied the other goal.

The Rockets held a 17-7 lead in shots on goal. Resorter goalie Taylor Porter made 10 saves.

“Corner kicks were our Achilles heel tonight. We did not attack the ball in the air and did not contest their runs at the ball as it was in the air,” said Resorter head coach Kevin Ruh.

“We need to coach the girls a little better on not reaching for the ball. Again this happened and freed up an opposing player to get a free run and make a quick pass to the outside for a cross.

“Shynaia Higgins did a good job running down a lot of players tonight and clearing the ball from her sweeper position. We need to communicate a little quicker and anticipate what the opponent wants to do and take that away,” said Ruh.
