Tigers’ defense strong in win over Falls

SHEBOYGAN FALLS – The Howards Grove Tigers continued their strong defense this season with a 2-0 win over host Sheboygan Falls in a nonconference girls soccer game Saturday morning.

“We live and die with our defense. Ashley Reinemann and Emma Schmid had outstanding games in the central defense,” said Tiger head coach David Kisiolek whose team garnered its third straight shutout.

The Tigers upped their record to 7-2-1.

HG grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Brittany Schaller off a corner kick from Kate Bruckschen only 2:09 into the game. Bruckschen was credited with an assist. The score was 1-0 at halftime.

Riley Jahnke scored the other goal on a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard box at the 72:52 mark. The goal was the first for the freshman midfielder.

“Our midfield and forwards had trouble with the Falls formation in the first half but adjustments at halftime turned the possession time and control of the midfield in our favor for the second half,” said Kisiolek.

“Offensive midfielders Katie Guse and Malayna McDaniel played by far their best soccer of the season.”

HG led 19-16 in shots on goal. Tiger senior goalkeeper Olivia Stauss made 16 saves and Falcon goalie Rachel Wilke had 17.
