Defense propels Tigers to BEC victory

The Tigers raised their Big East Conference record to 5-1- 1 (6-2-1 overall). The Rockets slipped to 4-2-2 in the BEC (4-3- 2 overall).

Kaitlynn Near’s goal at the 35:41 mark gave the Tigers a 1-0 halftime lead.

Malayna McDaniel followed up a missed shot by Brittany Schaller off a post which McDaniel followed up for a goal at the 30:31 mark in the second half. Schaller was credited with an assist.

“Once again the Tigers were led by their defense. Goalkeeper Olivia Strauss along with center backs Ashley Reinemann and Emma Schmid consistently thwarted Cedar Grove attacks,” said Tiger head coach David Kisiolek.

Beutel had eight of the Rockets’ 14 shots on goal in the rematch. The Tigers had 22 shots on goal. Stauss made nine saves. HG tied the Rockets 3-3 in their early-season meeting.

“We beat a good Cedar Grove team tonight and I am glad we are finished playing them. They have good athletes and are wellcoached,” said Kisiolek.

The HG-Sheboygan Christian match which was postponed April 20 due to inclement weather will not be made up. Christian has decided to forfeit the match because it’s unable to make it up.
