Robinson leads Panthers to ECC win

WAUPUN – Sydney Robinson kicked two goals to lead the Plymouth Panthers to a 5-0 girls soccer win over host Waupun here Thursday afternoon.

PHS upped its first-place East Central Conference record to 7-0 (8-1-1 overall). The Panthers chalked up their sixth ECC shutout.

The Panthers built a 4-0 halftime lead on two goals by Robinson and one each from Kaylee Koenig and Taylor Heyrman. Robinson’s second goal was off a header after Ellie Welsch made a corner kick for the assist. Skyler Gosse scored the second-half goal.

Carly Lilek had a teamhigh two assists and Jayda Martell contributed one.

PHS held an impressive 18-1 edge in shots on goal. Sam Meyer and Taylor Heyrman split the goalie duties.

“We knew that Waupun was going to be much better than our earlier meeting [won by PHS, 8-0]. With Waupun’s field being narrower and shorter, we knew that we needed to hold possession and prevent Waupun from countering quickly. We managed to do that,” said PHS head coach Brad Feick.

“As a team we prevented Waupun from establishing any dangerous scoring opportunities. Our defensive back four played well and supported play consistently.

“I was pleased with how players were able to step into different roles and contribute even if they weren’t playing positions that they were comfortable with. Those contributions will continue to help us down the road,” said Feick.
