Binversie’s hit gives Tigers BEC win

MANITOWOC – Courtney Binversie’s RBI single in the top of the ninth inning gave the Howards Grove Tigers a 6-5 win over Manitowoc Lutheran in game one of a softball twinbill here May 9.

The Big East Conference game was tied 5-5 after the Lancers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Lutheran won the nightcap, 10-4.

Senior shortstop Taylor Bubolz slugged a three-run homer in the fifth to spark the Tigers’ attack. HG banged out 11 hits, led by Evelynn Spaeth, Paige Splittgerber and Binversie with two each.

Splittgerber notched a complete game victory. The senior allowed just one earned run on five hits with seven strikeouts and only two walks.

Mikayla Riemer led the Lancers in hits with two.


The Lancers outhit HG 15-7 en route to victory in the night- cap. Allison Menges ignited Lutheran’s offense with four hits.

Splittgerber and Julia Carnley paced HG in hits with two each. Carnley had a team-high two RBIs.
