Transportation complex groundbreaking

The official groundbreaking for the $25 million Sheboygan County Transportation Department Complex took place Tuesday. Manning the shovels on the site at the intersection of State 67 and County J were (left to right) Bryan Olson and Edgar Harvey of the Transportation Department, Supervisor Charles Conrardy, Joe Widmann of Quasius Construction, Supervisor Richard Bemis, Supervisor Al Bosman, Supervisor Roger Te Stroete, County Administrator Adam Payne, County Board Chair Thomas Wegner, Transportation Director Greg Schnell and Matt Quasius of Quasius. The transportation complex will be 163,000 square feet and will be the future home to three of the County’s current transportation facilities. The current Elkhart Lake shed, Plymouth shed, and Sheboygan Transportation Department headquarters will all be consolidated into the new facility. The general contractor, Quasius Construction Inc., has begun the footing or foundation work for the placement of pre-cast wall panels. The erection of the pre-cast walls is scheduled to begin after Memorial Day and continue through the month of July. During that time, utility work will also be occurring, including the installation of the waterline that will connect to the Rocky Knoll Health Care Center water tower, as well as connecting the sewer lines to the force main from Rocky Knoll to the City of Plymouth Wastewater Treatment Plant. County Administrator Adam Payne said the Elkhart Lake shed facility already has an accepted offer to purchase, and the county is also considering offers on the Plymouth Shed and Sheboygan Headquarters sites, all of which will be available for economic development and returned to the tax roll. Once the new facility is constructed, Administrator Payne said the county will have four locations based in the four corners of our county. “We are always seeking opportunities to improve, and the new transportation facility will allow us to provide efficient and cost-effective services that taxpayers expect,” Payne said.
