Resorters’ Schubert shines in BEC Meet

Also shown are Kjersten Grinna of Howards Grove and Kenzie Schimberg, Random Lake. – Photo by Mike McGill CEDAR GROVE – Senior Sonia Schubert of Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah had a very strong showing in the girls competition at Monday’s Big East Conference Track Meet.

Schubert won the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.21 seconds and was on the winning 400 relay which was clocked in 53.42. She also earned second in the long jump at 17-9½.

The other members of the relay were Camrie Schmitz, Mia Rentmeester and Lauren Boos. Also placing in the top four was Schmitz who took second in the 100 dash in 13.58 seconds and was fourth in the 200 dash with 27.69.

Hilbert/Stockbridge won the girls championship for the second straight year – scoring 117 points. Reedsville was second at 107. The EL-G Resorters placed sixth with 50. The Howards Grove Tigers were 13th with 19.

Grinna’s fifth in the 100 (in 13.94) was the Tigers’ only other top-five finish.

Oostburg repeated as the BEC boys champion as it rolled up 112 points, followed by Reedsville with 92. Oostburg shared the title last year with St. Mary Catholic (Neenah).

HG finished 10th with 21 points and EL-G was 13th with 13.

The Resorters were paced by freshnman Finn Shields who earned second in the discus with a throw of 119-5. Also placing in the top six for the team was Hunter Radloff, sixth in the 800 run in 2:06.01.

“This year has had some challenges but it was encouraging to see the athletes improve on a weekly basis and perform well in the meets that we participated in.”

HG was led by senior Noah Bramstedt and freshman Luke Schroeder. Bramstedt took fourth in the 100 in 12.11. Schroeder captured fourth in the discus with a 109-01 effort.
