Spanglish heats up Festive Fridays

Spanglish, the Milwaukee band that has been raising eyebrows with its diverse Latin style, will bring end-of-week celebrating to a fever pitch Friday, May 7, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in downtown Sheboygan.

This popular dance band concocts a glorious mix of salsa, merengue, bachata, cumbia, reggaeton, funk, and R&B with vocals in English and Spanish. Traditional rhythms have never sounded as good as they do when spiced up Spanglish style. The 10-member band’s trumpet, saxophone, flute and guitar perfectly balance percussion that includes bongos, congas, tambora and more.

Following close on the heels of Cinco de Mayo, this is likely to be one of the hottest shows of the Festive Fridays season. The free dance instruction offered at intermission will bring some sizzle to the dance floor. (Participation is voluntary, but Spanglish’s rhythm section will have everyone wishing for a few new moves.)

A cash bar will allow dancers to quench their thirst, while complimentary appetizers will keep their energy from flagging.

The Arts Center is located at 608 New York Ave. in Sheboygan. Free parking is available. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. All attendees must be 21 or over. Call 458-6144 for more information.

The Arts Center appreciates St. Nicholas Hospital for its support of Festive Fridays. The May 7 performance is the last of the 2009-10 season; look for Festive Fridays to return in October.
