Calumet Drive work begins

Construction season has officially begun in Sheboygan County, with work beginning this week on State 42 (Calumet Drive) in the city of Sheboygan, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) Northeast Region office in Green Bay.

This week, crews will begin installing the temporary traffic signals at the State 42 (Calumet Drive) and North Avenue intersection. They will also begin work on the temporary roadway widening along the west side of State 42 (Calumet Drive)25th from Main Avenue to Street.

The $3.3 million, 1.5-mile project on Calumet Drive from Main Avenue to 26th Street in the city of Sheboygan, and from Mueller Road to Interstate 43, is scheduled for completion in October.

The project includes full reconstruction of State 42 from Main Avenue to 26th Street, a total length of one-half mile, and pavement rehabilitation of State 42 from Mueller Road to I-43, a total length of 1 mile.

Work consists of earthwork and grading, water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer, base aggregate, concrete pavement, concrete pavement repair, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, street lighting, traffic signals, landscaping, pavement markings, and sign replacement.

State 42 and North Avenue will remain open to a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction at all times. Various turning movements will be prohibited at the State 42 and North Avenue intersection at times during construction.
