I-43 project begins Thursday

Gov. Scott Walker has approved a $6.2 million contract to improve 6.9 miles of Interstate 43 in Sheboygan County from State 42 to the North County Line (County Line Road). The project is scheduled to start Thursday, June 1, and last until November of this year.

Northeast Asphalt of Greenville is the prime contractor.

The project improvements include resurfacing and concrete base patching of mainline I-43; ramp resurfacing at the I-43/State 42 interchange and culvert replacements, new signage and pavement markings.

There will be single lane closures of northbound and southbound I-43 during construction, leaving one lane of traffic open for motorists in various segments of the project work zone. However, lane closures will be removed during peak travel times on the weekend.

Northbound I-43 will be down to a single lane of travel from 6 a.m. Saturday through 12 noon on Friday during construction.

All lanes will be open from 12 noon Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday during construction.

Southbound I-43 will be down to a single lane of travel from 6 a.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Sunday during construction.

All lanes will be open from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday during construction.

There will be various nighttime closures of the I-43/State 42 interchange ramps for paving operations.

Project benefits include extending the life of the existing pavement structure and providing an improved driving surface for motorists.

Motorists are reminded to use caution and remain alert when driving through this or any work zone.
