State 42 work continues

A second highway project in the county will begin this week, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) northeast region office in Green Bay.

The 6.9-mile, $6.2 million Interstate 43 resurfacing project from the Sheboygan/Manitowoc county line to the State 42/I-43 interchange starts on June 1.

Details are included in the story above and are available on the project website:

In the city of Sheboygan, work continues on the State 42 (Calumet Drive) reconstruction project.

Location/limits: The 1.5-mile, $3.3 million project includes Calumet Drive from Main Avenue to 26th Street in the city of Sheboygan and from Mueller Road to I-43. It is scheduled for completion in October.

The project includes full reconstruction of State 42 from Main Avenue to 26th Street - a total length of one-half mile - and pavement rehabilitation of State 42 from Mueller Road to I-43, a total length of one mile. Work consists of earthwork and grading, water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer, base aggregate, concrete pavement, concrete pavement repair, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, street lighting, traffic signals, landscaping, pavement markings and sign replacement.

This week, the contractor will continue work on the temporary roadway widening along the west side of State 42 (Calumet Drive) from Main Avenue to 26th Street and removing the existing concrete curb and gutter and sidewalk, grading, and base aggregate placement. They will also finish installing and activate the temporary traffic signals at the State 42 (Calumet Drive) and North Avenue intersection.

State 42 and North Avenue will remain open to a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction at all times. Various turning movements will be prohibited at the State 42 and North Avenue intersection at times during construction. Currently, State 42 southbound is reduced to one lane from Main Avenue to 26th Street and there is no access to 25th Street west from State 42 (Calumet Drive).
