Errors plague Panthers in regional loss

PORT WASHINGTON – Kate Snook fired a one-hitter for the Port Washington Pirates who cashed in on shoddy Plymouth defense en route to 10-1 drubbing of the Panthers in a Division 2 regional softball semifinal game here Thursday evening.

The No. 5-seeded Panthers ended their season at 6-16. The No. 4-seeded Pirates improved to 11-11. PHS committed seven errors which led to eight unearned runs. The Panthers’ only run was a home run by Sommer Stoney in the top of the first inning.

Snook walked none and struck out nine to earn the win.

“Snook pitched well, however we did have five looking strikeouts,” said Panther head coach Dawn Krebsbach.

“Errors plagued us tonight. If we play clean, it’s a 2-1 ball game. Defensive errors hurt us all season long. We’ve given opponents too many chances throughout the season.”

Losing pitcher was Sylvia Peters, allowing only two earned runs on just five hits with five walks, one hit batter and six strikeouts in going the route.

The Pirates had four players with two RBIs each – Keelie Schumacher, Snook, Morgan Esselman and Brianna Dallgas.
