CASCADE — Several ongoing efforts and investigations were discussed at the Village Board meeting Tuesday.

A subcommittee headed by Trustee Tom Horner is reviewing the village’s current nuisance ordinance and comparing it to ordinances of several other municipalities. Possible refinements, and a procedure on handling violations, will be developed by the committee. That will be submitted to the board and then passed on to the village’s attorney.

Clerk/Treasurer Kayla Simanovski said she wanted to write updated police coverage contracts between Cascade and other municipalities. Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department Captain Cory Roeseler, present at the meeting, said the most recent contract was more than 10 years old.

“It’s not that we need to change, or want to, change anything,” Village President Dave Jaeckels emphasized.

Roeseler suggested getting contracts out to municipalities earlier in the year, before budgets are finalized. That would help each municipality decide whether to contract for more hours of coverage.

The board unanimously approved a resolution regarding the CMAR (Compliance Maintenance Annual Report). This yearly report is required by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Jaeckels said there were some issues brought out by the report but they are being addressed.

Trustee Jim Larson reported that the village issued 10 building permits this past month.

The committee exploring options for a new fire hall continues its work but nothing new developed in the past month.

Police report for May: Two citations totaling $20 (both seatbelt violations); four warnings; six complaints investigated (peace officer, three unlicensed vehicles, assist with found wallet, noise complaint); nine property checks; no traffic accidents investigated, arrests made, court appearances, or warrants.

Because of scheduling conflicts, the village’s July meeting was rescheduled to Monday, July 17. Meetings will start at the usual time: the Water and Sewer meeting at 6 p.m. and the board meeting at 7:30 p.m.
