New Holstein Huskies win doubleheader over Elkhart Lake

ELKHART LAKE – New Holstein rolled to a doubleheader sweep over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah in Big East Conference baseball action here Wednesday.

The Huskies won the opener, 10-1, and took the nightcap, 12-0. NH upped its first-place record in the BEC’s large-school division to 12-1 (12-3 overall). The Resorters fell to 2-10 in the league’s smallschool division (2-10 overall).

In game one, Charlie Schnell had four RBIs to ignite the Huskies’ offense. Teddy Schnell contributed two RBIs. Brad Schroeder and Teddy Schnell led in hits with two each.

Max Ward paced the Resorters in hits with two and drove in his team’s lone run.

Casey Schrage notched a complete game victory. Schrage gave up one earned run on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Ward was the starting hurler for EL-G and took the loss. He allowed eight runs (five earned) on four hits with six walks and one strikeout in 4-2/3 innings.

The Huskies tallied 10 runs in the final three innings combined to break the nightcap open after leading only 2-0 through four innings.

Trent Winkel keyed the Huskies’ bats with three hits. Owen Heus, Nolan Beirne and Charlie Schnell had a team-high two RBIs each.

Elkhart was held to only five hits and had no batters with more than one.

Teddy Schnell was the winning hurler. He started and went five innings – walking three and notching four strikeouts.

Brennen Cain started on the mound for EL-G and was the losing pitcher. Cain allowed two runs (both earned) on three hits with four walks and four strikeouts in two innings.
