Road projects resume after Fourth

After a Fourth of July holiday weekend break from road work, drivers will be contending with several Department of Transportation (DOT) projects in the county again starting today, according to the DOT northeast region office in Green Bay.

Starting Wednesday, crews will be mobilizing to site, setting up traffic control as needed, and finish sealing bridge structures on Interstate 43 in Manitowoc and Sheboygan counties. The contractor also anticipates they will begin sealing various bridges over I-43, State 42, State 57, State 67, State 32 and State 28.

This project includes the furnishing and applying of a protective surface treatment to the entire top surface of the bridge deck, curb, including vertical face, median or sidewalk surfaces and the inside faces and tops of concrete parapets or railings. There will be various short-term, one lane closures at each bridge structure during the work.

All lanes of traffic will be open on Interstate 43 for the holiday weekend. Starting Wednesday, contractors will continue base patching of the concrete pavement on the inside lanes of northbound and southbound I-43 from the Sheboygan/Manitowoc county line to State 42/I-43 interchange

The 6.9-miles, $6.2 million project is scheduled for completion in November.

It consists of concrete base patching of the I-43 mainline, milling two inches of asphalt pavement and placing four inches of new asphalt pavement, ramp resurfacing at the I-43/ State 42 interchange, culvert replacement, signing and pavement marking.

Lane closures will begin again Wednesday morning. There will be single lane closures of northbound and southbound I-43 during construction, leaving one lane of traffic open for motorists in various segments of the project work zone. However, lane closures will be removed during peak travel times on the weekend.

Northbound I-43 will be down to a single lane of travel from 6 a.m. Saturday through 12 noon on Friday during construction.

All lanes open from 12 noon Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday during construction.

Southbound I-43 will be down to a single lane of travel from 6 a.m. Monday through 6 a.m. Sunday during construction.

All lanes open from 6 a.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday during construction.

There will be various nighttime closures of the I-43/State 42 interchange ramps for paving operations.

On the State 42 (Calumet Drive) reconstruction project in the city of Sheboygan, AT&T will finish relocating their utility conduit duct package along the State 42 (Calumet Drive) northbound lanes from Main Avenue to 25th Street this week. The contractor will begin grading and storm sewer installation along the North Avenue westbound lanes east of State 42 (Calumet Drive).

The 1.5-mile, $3.3 million project, scheduled for completion in October, includes full reconstruction of State 42 from Main Avenue to 26th Street, a total length of one-half mile, and pavement rehabilitation of State 42 from Mueller Road to I-43, a total length of 1 mile. Work consists of earthwork and grading, water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer, base aggregate, concrete pavement, concrete pavement repair, concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk, street lighting, traffic signals, landscaping, pavement markings, and sign replacement.

State 42 and North Avenue will remain open to a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction at all times. Various turning movements will be prohibited at the State 42 and North Avenue intersection at times during construction.

Motorists are advised to use caution and remain alert when driving through any work zone.

All work is weather dependent and subject to change.
