Flames pound A’s in Rock River League game

Rhude earned a complete-game win, 13-1. – Review photo by Greg Ceilley PLYMOUTH – Matt Rhude fired a two-hitter and Zac Cain and Ryan Schmitt had three RBIs each to power the Plymouth Flames to a 13-1 rout over the Kewaskum A’s in a Rock River Baseball League Northeast Division game here Friday night.

The Flames upped their division record to 6-5 (11-8 overall).

Rhude, who evened his record at 2-2, allowed an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning. The only hits off him were a single by Mike Hensel in the second and a single in the fourth. The game ended after 6½ innings due to the 10-run rule.

The Flames exploded for seven runs in the second to build a 7-0 lead. The key hits were Cain’s three-run double and Schmitt’s two-run triple. Plymouth collected four hits and four walks in the frame.

Rhude cracked an RBI double and Nick Wilson delivered an RBI single to lead the surge.

The Flames pounded out 10 hits, led by Mike Daly, Cain and Austin Mork with two each. Mork also contributed two RBIs. Rhude scored a team-high three runs.

“Matt set the tone. He has been really pitching well lately. He changed speeds well,” said Flame manager Rick Meyer.

“I was very happy with the team overall. This is a big win. It keeps us in the [division] playoff race.”

The losing pitcher was Grant Steinke who started and threw 4-1/3 innings. Steinke allowed 11 runs on nine hits.
