Tigers’ Dirker shuts down Resorters’ bats

HOWARDS GROVE – Junior Isaac Dirker of Howards Grove fired a three-hit shutout, 10-0, over Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah in Big East Conference small school division baseball action here Thursday night.

Dirker fanned six batters and allowed only one walk in five innings. The game ended after 4-2/3 innings due to the 10-run rule.

“Isaac was very sharp in this one and got lots of offensive help from his team,” said Tiger head coach Mark Weber.

“Isaac’s pitch placement and control of both his fastball and his off-speed stuff kept the Resorters off balance. We had good intensity both on offense and defense.”

The Tigers, who have won three in a row, raised their BEC record to 9-7 (9-7 overall). The Resorters fell to 2-13 in the league (2-13 overall).

HG had a five-run outburst in the bottom of the first inning. Eric Reinemann hit an RBI double and Alec Danen whacked an RBI single. Gavin Winter and Ryan Splittgerber had an RBI each on groundouts. The fifth run scored on an error.

Reinemann led the Tigers in RBIs with three and shared the team lead in hits with Noah Bramstedt at two each. Jake Fritz, Bramstedt and Nic Koenig scored a team-high two runs apiece.

Tyler Schultz led the Resorters in hits with two. Max Kossman collected the team’s other hit.

Kossman was Elkhart’s starting hurler and took the loss. He gave up seven runs (five earned) on five hits with one strikeout and five walks.

The Resorters made four errors which led to four unearned runs by the Tigers.
