Plymouth wins 12-U title in local invite

PLYMOUTH – Plymouth won the age 12-and-under division in the Plymouth Baseball Invitational, held June 16-18.

The Plymouth team came out of the losers’ bracket to defeat Manitowoc in the championship game. Of the 13 games in the 12-U division, only two were decided by more than three runs, with three games decided on an extra-innings tiebreaker system.

Manitowoc won the 11-U division with a 3-1 record in the five-team, round-robin format. Portage finished second. The Plymouth squad was competitive but didn’t win a game.

North Fond du Lac was the champion in the 13-U division with a 9-6 win over Beaver Dam in the finals. North FDL won the Black Pool and Beaver Dam took first in the Orange Pool which advanced the teams to the finals. Plymouth, which led its Lakeshore League division coming into the invitational, finished 0-3.

Germantown won the fiveteam, round-robin 14-U division with a 4-0 record, with Cedarburg second at 3-1. Plymouth won its opener over Manitowoc and then lost the next three games.

Randy Meyer, the invitational director, expressed thanks to three local organizations for their support as they worked the scoreboard and concession stand at each park during the event. The Plymouth chapter of the National Honor Society covered Rotary Park, the New Life Community Church worked at Lions Park and the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church covered Carl Loebe Field.
