Mercs roll past Flames in league play

CEDARBURG – The Cedarburg Mercs pounded out 14 hits, including three home runs, to key a 12-2 rout over the Plymouth Flames in Rock River Baseball League action here Sunday afternoon.

The Mercs upped their firstplace Northeast Division record to 8-1. The Flames dropped to 7-6 in the division (13-9 overall). The game ended after eight innings due to the 10-run rule.

Taylor Grimm and Kraig Perlberg led the Mercs’ attack with three hits each. Reggie Raypis, Zach Lauterbach and Nick Boehnlein added two apiece. The RBI leaders with two each were Matt Woelky, Lauterbach, Grimm, Boehnlein and Perlberg.

Derek Hall, Mike Daly and Zach Gambrell paced Plymouth in hits with two each.

The Flames tied the game, 2-2, with two runs in the top of the fourth. Greg Krahn led off with a double and scored on an outfield error. Mike Daly’s double drove in Gambrell who had singled earlier.

Cedarburg answered with a two-run homer by Boehnlein in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 4-2.

Joe Daniels notched a complete game win. Daniels al- lowed two earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts, one hit batter and only one walk.

Matt Rhude was the Flames’ starting and losing pitcher. Rhude was tagged for eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits with no walks, one hit batter and three strikeouts in 5-2/3 innings.
