Three Panthers earn All-ECC honors

JESSICA LEIDER JESSICA LEIDER Senior Vanessa Arbuckle and juniors Jessica Leider and Sommer Stoney of the Plymouth Panthers were voted to the All-East Central Conference softball honorable-mention team by the ECC coaches for the 2017 season.

Stoney, a shortstop, led the Panthers in ECC batting with an outstanding .400 average. She also paced her team in on base percentage with .442 and slugging average at .625.

Stoney and Arbuckle shared the PHS lead in home runs with two each for the league season. The duo were in a five-way tie for third in the ECC in homers. Stoney had nine RBIs and three doubles, and scored 11 runs.

“Sommer was our leading offensive producer in all categories and was consistent in her at-bats,” said PHS head coach Dawn Krebsbach.

Arbuckle hit .297 in conference action with seven RBIs, nine runs and two doubles.

“”Vanessa had a solid year at third base and did a good job in the No. 4 spot [in the batting order]. She will be missed next year,” said Krebsbach.


SOMMER STONEY SOMMER STONEY Leider, a center fielder, was an All-ECC first-team pick in the league’s 2016 inaugural season. She hit .289 in ECC play with seven RBIs, one triple, two doubles and seven runs this year.

Leider was strong on defense with only one error to go with six assists in 14 ECC games.

“Although Jessica struggled offensively, her defense shined – leading the conference outfielders in putouts. She was very reliable in center field,” said the coach.

Sophomore pitcher Kennedy Lehn and senior infielder Bree Trepes of Kewaskum were voted the ECC’s Co- Players of the Year. Lehn was a unanimous first-team pick and one of four players who repeated on the top unit.

Lehn and Waupun’s Yvette Navis led the ECC in ERA with an impressive 0.97 each. Lehn paced the league in wins with 12, shutouts, six and strikeouts at 150, and allowed only 28 hits in 79-1/3 innings. Lehn also batted .458.


VANESSA ARBUCKLE VANESSA ARBUCKLE Trepes was the ECC batting champion with an impressive .652 average. Sophomore outfielder Maddie Geidel from Kewaskum ranked second in hitting with a scorching .605.

The other first-team repeaters are junior hurler Megan Van Ruiswyk of Waupun; senior infielder Kylee Whitford, Winneconne; and sophomore utility player Alyssa Muench of Campbellsport.

The other unanimous first team players include sophomore catcher Kylle Hraban of Waupun; Whitford; junior infielder Megan Gerber, Waupun; senior outfielder Leah Hoffman, Winneconne; and Geidel, sophomore outfielder.

Geidel paced the ECC in RBIs with 23, followed by Hraban with 18. Geidel also slugged a league-high five homers.
