Lutheran to honor Dekker Friday

Sheboygan Lutheran High School will retire the No. 1 Crusader basketball jersey of alumnus and Los Angeles Clippers’ NBA player, Sam Dekker, on Friday.

Lutheran High is having a jersey dedication ceremony, free and open to the public, outdoors on the Lutheran High grounds at 4 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a lawn chair for seating.

Guest speakers that are close to Dekker and his career, who will present a #1 Crusader jersey to Sam and the school include: Patrick Herb, UW Badgers athletic communications; Kevin Harlan, NFL and NBA play-by-play announcer; and Todd Dekker, former LHS varsity boys basketball coach. Sheboygan Mayor Mike Vandersteen will read a proclamation for Sam Dekker Day.

From 5-6 p.m. Sam, a former UW standout, will be available for autographs. A free 8-by-10 glossy photo of him will be handed out, or you can bring another item for him to sign (limit one item per person). The UW Badger Band will entertain the crowd after the ceremony.

At 6:30 p.m. we will unveil a Jersey Retirement Banner in the gymnasium with a reception, additional guests speakers and some photo opportunities. We will recognize the Crusaders 2012 boys state basketball championship team players, including Dekker, at that time.

Tickets to the Banner Unveiling Reception can be purchased in the LHS Office, through Thursday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tickets need to be worn in the lanyard to gain admittance into the gymnasium for the reception. No pets at either event please.

The reception seating is limited and tickets are available to the public for a limited time at 3323 University Dr., Sheboygan. For more information, call Carmen Dolson at 452-3323.
