At their June meeting held at Siebken’s Resort in Elkhart Lake, organization members voted to contribute a total of $5,200 which was raised by their yearly dues and raffles held at each monthly meeting. Prizes awarded were $1,500 to Elkhart Lake First Responders, $1,200 to Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund, $1,000 to Safe Harbor, $800 to Lakeshore Community Health Care, $400 to Hearthstone of Wisconsin and $300 to Glacial Lakes Conservancy.

The Elkhart Lake First Responders will be using their donation for medical bags and supplies as well as defibrillators for current members who need them. The bags are back pack style that everything fits into rather than the two bags responders currently need to carry, freeing up their hands to assist patients. A check for $1,500 was presented to Darren Lindstrom and Kim Purkey.

Sheboygan County Cancer Care Fund provides financial assistance to those under going treatment for things not covered by insurance and helps meet basic needs. The $1,200 check presented to Ann Schultz will help with these needs.

Safe Harbor of Sheboygan will use their $1000, awarded to Laura Roenitz, to go towards support for residential services for families who request emergency shelter from violence.

Lakeshore Community Health Care will be using funds for their dispensary of Hope Medication Support Program. A check was awarded to Kristin Steans for $800.

Hearthstone of Wisconsin is a group that helps persons with disabilities. They provide support with living arrangements, employment opportunities along with social events and educational meetings throughout the year. This year they will be providing five scholarships for young people to continue their education beyond high school. A check for $400 was awarded to Peggy Feider.

Glacial Lakes Conservancy, Inc was awarded $300 to help with the cost of purchasing and planting native prairie plants and seeds at Grasshopper Hill Preserve. A check was awarded to Christine Strigenz.

Ladies of the Lakes, founded in 2005, meets the second Wednesday of each month. Their purpose is to develop and enhance friendships while, at the same time, provide support for the improvement of their communities. Annual dues are used solely for charitable purposes as determined by the members. Along with their annual charitable donation, this past year they were also able to raise money amongst themselves and were able to help two local families at Christmas time with presents and food. New members are always welcomed and encouraged.

For meeting information, contact Mary Richter at 920- 876-2079 or Laura Myers at 920-918-8559.

This year the charitable donation committee was chaired by Jackie Pottratz, Tina Lammers, Ann Wondergem and Pam Polasky.
