Hall fires three-hitter as Flames win

SAUKVILLE – Derek Hall twirled a three-hitter as the Plymouth Flames downed Saukville, 4-1, in a Rock River Baseball League game here Sunday afternoon.

The Flames upped their Northeast Division record to 8-6 (19-9 overall). The Saints fell to 4-8 in the division.

Hall allowed one earned run and no walks while striking out five. He retired the first 12 batters before Sam Matthies broke up the perfect game with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the fifth inning.

“Derek did very well. He had better command all around [compared to recent games] and threw with good authority. We played good defense,” said Rick Meyer, the Flames’ manager.

The Flames grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on RBI Eric Heidenreiter’s single.

Plymouth made it 3-0 with two runs in the third on RBI singles by Zac Cain and Matt Rhude. The Flames made it 4-1 in the ninth when Heidenreiter scored on a wild pitch.

Greg Rhude led the Flames’ attack with three hits. Cain, Heidenreiter and Nick Bruns contributed two each.

Matthies was the losing hurler. He went the distance and gave up two earned runs on 11 hits with two walks, one hit batter and seven strikeouts.

Matthies led Saukville in hits with a pair.
