Resorters’ Schubert on all-state second team

SONIA SCHUBERT SONIA SCHUBERT Senior shortstop Sonia Schubert, who played a huge role in the Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters’ strong softball season this year, was named to the 2017 Wisconsin Fast-pitch Softball Coaches Association all-state second team for Divisions 3-5.

Schubert had an outstanding season on offense. She batted .517 with four home runs, six triples, four doubles and 29 RBIs. Schubert scored 48 runs, stole 37 bases, had a .575 on-base average and an .888 slugging percentage. She was caught stealing only once.

Schubert, who will be playing college softball at UW-Green Bay, was a unanimous All-BEC first-team pick each of the past two seasons. She had originally planned to play college softball at UW-Stevens Point but changed her decision recently. Schubert was the BEC’s Player of the Year as a junior.

Resorter head coach Brian Feldmann commended Schubert’s work ethic, hustle and her leadership with the underclassmen.

“She was a four-year starter for me and a two-year captain. She will be missed. She is a special athlete,” said Feldmann.

The Resorters earned their first berth in the sectional finals this past season and finished 18-7 overall.

Junior shortstop Taylar Miller and junior pitcher Cathryn Hiller of Random Lake earned all-state honors for Divisions 3-5. Miller was named to the second team and Hiller is honorable mention.

Sophomores Kennedy Lehn and Maddie Geidel of Kewaskum were named to the all-state second team for Divisions 1-2. Lehn is a pitcher and Geidel is an outfielder. Sophomore utility player Alyssa Muench of Campbellsport is on the honorable-mention squad for Divisions 3-5.
