Bombers explode past Huskies in BEC play

Ruh is a senior at Elkhart. – Review photo by KOHLER – The Kohler Blue Bombers erupted for eight goals in the second half en route to a 9-3 drubbing of New Holstein/ Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah in a boys soccer match here Tuesday afternoon.

Kohler raised its Big East Conference record to 2-0 (6-0 overall). The Huskies dropped to 0-1 in the BEC (0-3 overall). NH/ EL-G, Sheboygan Falls, Kiel and Manitowoc Roncalli joined the BEC for boys soccer after moving over from the former Eastern Wisconsin/Packerland Conference.

The match was tied 1-1 at halftime. Nick Wandschneider scored on a header early in the second half which gave the Bombers the lead for good, 2-1. Carter Gebler’s two goals led Kohler’s second-half onslaught.

Evan Petrie tallied the Huskies’ first goal which tied the game, 1-1. Petrie also had a goal in the second half. Also scoring for the team was Oren Kestell, assisted by Petrie.

“I believe we became tired and had a hard time competing against Kohler’s very physi- cal team. I hope to make some changes and look to improve very soon to try to get some positive momentum for my guys,” said Husky head coach Steve Conrad.

“We can play better then we have been – just need to dig deeper and face this new conference with some much better ball.”

Kohler’s other goals came from Jack Cassidy, Conner Cassidy, Andrew Maglio, Joe Kay, Colin Hogan and Eli Nugent with one each.

Kohler led 19-4 in shots on goal. NH/EL-G goalie Noah Koenigs made 10 saves.
