Sheboygan A’s plan fundraisers

Determined to get a new lighting system in place by next season, the Sheboygan A’s are launching a fall fundraising campaign, the hero of which could be the September 10 5K Home Run/Walk.

It will be the first of three major events on the fall calendar. First was The Snipe, the annual golf outing in August at Town and Country. Then comes the Sunday, Sept. 10, 5K followed by the Saturday, Sept. 16, brat fry at Miesfeld’s.

The lighting at Wildwood Baseball Park is still the original system erected for the 1981 season. Technological advances have placed it far behind current standards, which must be met if the A’s are to have a safe playing environment and attract high level tournaments, exhibitions and playoffs.

Current estimates place the lighting system in the $350,000 vicinity. The club has raised about half of that so far and is determined to bring in the necessary funds to do the project this fall.

Success at the upcoming events is critical to the effort.

The 5K Home Run/Walk begins and ends at Wildwood Baseball Park. It gets underway at 8 a.m. and ends when the last walker completes his or her lap around the park’s warning track.

Registration can be made by logging on to the A’s website, and at the ballpark on Saturday, Sept. 9, between 12 noon and 3 p.m. Interested participants can also call (920) 458-6377 to make arrangements to pick up an entry form.

The brat fry at Miesfeld’s runs from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16.

Persons interested in sponsoring any of these events or in making a direct tax deductible donation to the lighting project can call (920) 458-6377 for information or send their checks directly to Sheboygan Athletic Club, PO Box 32, Sheboygan 53082-0032.
