PHS outlasted the Warriors, 25-16, 20-25, 25-12, 16-25, 15- 13. Junior Cece Huhn spearheaded the Panthers’ attack with an impressive 24 kills. Huhn also had a team-high six solo blocks.

“A great first win in the conference tonight. A hard-fought battle with Waupun. We really played well against them,” said Panther head coach Peg Huhn.

“Cece Huhn had a great night. She really played with confidence and stayed very big in the front row for us.

“The girls like to find her first in the front row. Tonight, she was able to get us going. After she really put a few away the outsides opened wide open.

I think Hanna Goeser and Jessica Leider both attacked very well for us,” said coach Huhn.

Leider and Goeser contributed 10 and eight kills, respectively.

Other statistical leaders for PHS included: ace serves – Huhn, Courtney Casper and Jana Ahlstrand with two each; digs – Leider, 20 and Jayda Martell, 14; assists – Maggie Staehling, 23 and Ahlstrand, 20; and serve reception – Goeser 14-for-14 and Leider, 12- for-12.

“Great set selection by Maggie Staehling tonight. Both Jana Ahlstrand and Maggie have taken the setting position seriously and have really been working together well already this year as we continue to build our offense,” said the coach.

“We have lots of work to do yet, it is so early in the season. All I ask is that we get better every day. The girls are all working really hard in practice and it has already begun to show on the court.”
