James H. Braun, age 62, of N8639 Rhine Forest Lane, Elkhart Lake, Wis., passed away early Saturday morning, Aug. 22, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

James was born Nov. 11, 1946 in Sheboygan, Wis., a son of the late R.C. “Jim” and Olive Liebl Braun.

He attended St. Peter Claver Catholic Grade School in Sheboygan and graduated from Sheboygan South High School in 1965. Jim also graduated from Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland with an Associate Degree in marketing and sales.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965-69 serving in the Vietnam War.

On Nov. 13, 1971, he married Bonnie Verhage at St. George Catholic Church at Six Corners. The couple have resided in the town of Rhine since their marriage.

James worked in the family business, Braun-Herr Hardware and T.V. and Appliance Store in Sheboygan, with his brother, Jake, for many years before working at the Kohler Co. for 30 years retiring in 2005.

Jim enjoyed going to rummage sales, building cars, selling merchandise on eBay and spending time with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for always being there with a helping hand when someone needed help.

Survivors include his loving wife of 37 years, Bonnie of Elkhart Lake; one daughter, Carisa (Tony) Resimius of Plymouth and one son, Ryan (Candice) Braun of Elkhart Lake; two grandchildren, Jacob Braun and Evelyn Resimius; his mother-in-law, Mary Ann Verhage of Sheboygan; one sister, Jeannie (Carl) Schwerman of Brookfield, Wis.; six brothers-in-law: Gary (Carolyn) Verhage of Sheboygan, Jim (Julie) Verhage of Sheboygan, Scott (Bev) Verhage of Kewaskum, John Verhage of Sheboygan, Mark (Lori) Verhage of Frenchberg, Ky., and Paul Verhage of Random Lake; one sister-in-law, Jean (John) Borkenhagen of Cascade; special friend, Patricia Horvath of Jackson, Wis.; and also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by one infant brother, Joseph Braun and one brother, Albert “Jake” Braun; and his father-in-law, Lawrence “Hap” Verhage.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. The Rev. Tom Fleischmann, chaplain for the Sheboygan County Health Care Centers, will officiate and burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Sheboygan.

Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial fund is being established in his name.

The Ladewig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post #243 in Plymouth will conduct military rites at the cemetery.
