State 32 roadwork begins

Add another to the list of state highway projects in the county.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) northeast region office in Green Bay, work began this week on the resurfacing of State 32 from the north limit of the village of Howards Grove to State 57, with the contractor completing curb and gutter and sidewalk replacements in Ada. Shoulder removals, milling, and asphalt paving will also begin this week.

The 7.3-mile, $1.9 million project includes milling the existing pavement and overlaying with asphalt. The existing paved shoulders will be widened from three feet to five feet and shoulder gravel will be added. Shoulder and centerline rumble strips will be installed along with new pavement marking.

State 32 and side roads will remain open to traffic except with temporary lane closures using flagging operations in the immediate area of work.

On the State 144 recondition project from State 28 in Silver Creek to State 57 in Random Lake, grading at County I will begin this week. Pavement removal through Silver Creek will begin. Curb and gutter will begin.

The $5 million project consists of milling and resurfacing 6.85 miles of State 144 and widening the travel lanes by two feet, widening shoulders, replacing curb and gutter, replacing storm sewer in Silver Creek, replacing culverts, updating existing beam guard, flattening side slopes, and upgrading several intersections.

State 144 is closed from Carroll Street to State 28 for the duration of the project. There will be a three-day closure at some point during construction between State 57 and Carroll Street for the box culvert work. Local access to the project will be allowed at various side streets.

The detour wis north along State 28, east on County A and south on State 57.

On the Interstate 43 resurfacing project from the Sheboygan/ Manitowoc county line to the State 42/I-43 interchange, the contractor this week will continue paving the inside shoulder surface coat on northbound I-43. They will continue placement of the shoulders along with paint and rumble strip placement.

The 6.9-mile, $6.2 million project consists of concrete base patching of I-43 mainline, milling two inches of asphalt pavement and placing four inches of new asphalt pavement, ramp resurfacing at the I-43/State 42 interchange, culvert replacement, signing, and pavement marking.

There will be single lane closures of northbound and southbound I-43 during construction, leaving one lane of traffic open for motorists in various segments of the project work zone. However, lane closures will be removed during peak travel times on the weekend.

There will be various nighttime closures of the I-43/State 42 interchange ramps for paving operations.

On the State 42 (Calumet Drive) reconstruction project in the city of Sheboygan, the contractor this week will continue roadway excavation along State 42 (Calumet Drive) southbound lanes, Avenue and 25th Main

Street. They will continue work on the sanitary sewer upgrades. They will begin concrete joint repair work along State 42 between Mueller Road and I- 43.

State 42 and North Avenue will remain open to a minimum of one lane of traffic in each direction at all times. Various turning movements will be prohibited at the State 42 and North Avenue intersection at times during construction.
