Huskies third in consolation at Kiel Invite

KIEL – The New Holstein/ Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Huskies placed third in the consolation bracket at Saturday’s Kiel Boys Soccer Invitational.

The Huskies routed Ozaukee, 6-1, in their final match of the tournament which gave them third. NH/EL-G finished 1-2 in the tournament.

Noah Ruh led the Huskies’ attack against Ozaukee with two goals. Gage Meyer, Yoshi Lira-Navarro, Weston Reedy and Ashton Fischer added one goal each. Evan Petrie and Ernesto Torres-Lopez contributed one assist each.

NH/EL-G lost in the first round to Manitowoc Lincoln, 2-1. Oren Kestell scored the Huskies’ goal.

In their next match, which came in the first round of the consolation bracket, the Huskies lost to Sheboygan Falls, 3-2. Justin Schultz and Ruh kicked the Huskies’ goals. Petrie assisted on Schultz’s goal.

Brayden Much led the Falcons’ offense with two goals and Preston Kurtinitis had one.

“This game we definitely showed signs of being tired and had some passing and some communication issues again. We didn’t play together as a team and became frustrated,” said Husky head coach Steve Conrad.

“We came out with much better attitudes [against Ozaukee] after a much-needed break.”

Winnebago Lutheran Academy (Fond du Lac) defeated Kiel in the championship match, 4-0.
